What is Podcasting?

Podcasting, a portmanteau of Apple's "iPod" and "broadcasting", is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. It first became popular in late 2004, used largely for audio files.

Instructions for Tuning In to the Northside Podcast

To fully enjoy what podcasting is all about, you will need to download the iTunes software to "tune in" to our podcasts.

You can subscribe to virtually any podcast in the known universe by dragging its URL (from the button in the left panel) into your podcast playlist shown below,

or by typing the URL into “Subscribe to Podcast” under the Advanced menu.

Listening

Podcasts are Mp3 files just like the music files you listen to on your Mp3 player.

Because the file type is the same, podcasts can be downloaded to your Mp3 player (such as an iPod) and listened to while you walk the dog - or travel in the car - or in an airplane etc.

If you don't have an Mp3 player you can still listen!

• You can download a show and listen on your local computer.
• You can listen online.
  
• You can download the shows and burn them to a CD to play in your car stereo or on any CD player.
